Inner, Right, Left, Full Outer Joins

Yes there are actually 4 basic permutations to the combining of two tables in a join.

  • Inner: Returns all rows when there is at least one match in BOTH tables
  • Left: Return all rows from the left table, and the matched rows from the right table
  • Right: Return all rows from the right table, and the matched rows from the left table
  • Full Outer: Return all rows when there is a match in ONE of the tables

join1-inner join2-left join3-right join4-outer

QGIS defaults to an Inner Join. In this parcels example, the shapefile has
